WHILE the finals didn't go entirely to plan for Werribee RSL in the dire weather conditions on Saturday, the club can still take heart from a productive season.
Severe rain and thunderstorms upset a packed weekend of bowls for the Werribee club, with some teams forced to wait overnight to finish quarter final match-ups.
The Werribee thirds had play halted due to flooding of the greens at Sunshine on the Saturday, with play finally getting under way the following morning when teams were forced to move onto carpet greens.
The change of surface did little to alter the result as Werribee went down to Sunshine 105-79, a disappointing end to what has been a successful season.
Thirds player Peter Carlton said: "We've been underdogs all season, so to make the quarter-finals was a great effort.
"Before Christmas we were really struggling, then we had a big change in personnel, with eight players coming on board and since then we've been great.
"The enthusiasm has been terrific and we've knocked off some top teams."
The shift in momentum over the latter stages of the year has enlivened not only Carlton and the thirds team, but the entire club that has its sights set on moving up the grades.
While the seconds team also lost amid the disruption of the schedules on Saturday, it too will be promoted along with the division seven team, which lost in the semi finals to Bundoora 99-70.
Next season Werribee RSL will field teams in the Premier Division and first division as well as two teams in both the second and third divisions.
