Three premierships give Mooney bragging rights

30 Sep, 2009 04:00 AM
GEELONG'S star forward Cameron Mooney had one hell of a tale to tell his neighbours when he returned home to Sanctuary Lakes after Mad Monday celebrations.

The 30-year-old is now a triple AFL premiership player after booting two goals in the Cats' thrilling 12-point victory over St Kilda in the 'big one' at the MCG on Saturday.

Mooney - affectionately known as The Big Hairy Cat for his long hair and facial fur - was a bit-part player in the 1999 North Melbourne premiership team, but has matured into one of the spiritual leaders in the Cats team, which has collected two of the past three AFL flags and is being rated one of the greatest teams produced by the club from Kardinia Park.
