Reigning premiers gear up for another tilt at title

WERRIBEE Centrals' coach Phil Crea still believes he has the "best balanced side" in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association North A1 competition and is confident his side will finish in the top two.

The reigning premiers are in a strong position to take out the title for the second year running, sitting comfortably within the top four, and Crea believes his side is in good shape to go back to back.

"I've been happy with all the blokes on the team as they've done the right things throughout the year and everyone puts in to give us an even performance in matches," Crea said.

"I still think we'll finish in the top two and we'll give it our best in the finals and I'm confident we can win it."

The Centrals play lowly Albion at the weekend and Crea expects his side to get an outright win in the match.

"They [Albion] have lost a few players and are struggling a bit at the moment so we have to be confident against sides like that," he said.

"It will require another solid team effort but we are more than capable of producing one."

Crea has been impressed with the form of 16-year-old Sam Crea who he sees as a "very important player" for the finals series. "Sam has really stood up this year and has picked up around 17-18 wickets for us and he's played for the Western Spirit and done well there.

"He's done everything I've asked him to do and I'll be looking to him to make a big contribution in the finals."

As for his side's potential opponents in the grand final, should they make it, Crea singles out St Albans.

"I am confident we'll meet St Albans in the final as they have good cricketers and are hitting form at the right time in the season."
