WERRIBEE Centrals recorded a narrow victory over top of the table side Moonee Valley on Saturday to secure a spot in the finals series for the Victorian Turf Cricket Association north A1 competition.
The Centrals set themselves up for a win on day one of the two-day match, restricting Moonee Valley to just 113 and completed the victory with a 8-115 total on the weekend.
Despite the positive result, Centrals' coach Phil Crea said his side "did not bat well" and there was room for improvement.
"We played well in patches and it was definitely an inconsistent performance on our behalf," Crea said.
"We haven't batted well all season and there is room for improvement in that area whether it's our concentration or the way we approach each match.
"If we make more runs then we'll win the big games because our bowling and fielding is up to scratch."
Crea singled out Wade McCall as his side's "man of the match" against Moonee Valley and said he had been "playing exceptionally" well since returning to Australia after living in England for a number of years.
"Wade has been good for us with both ball and bat which showed in this match as he picked up four
wickets and scored 41 runs," Crea said.
"Chris Parslow and Dean Cachia have also been playing well but the rest of us have struggled and we need to pick up our game.
"We want to be the best side in the west so we need to improve if we want to get there."
The Centrals face Albion away from home in the final round of the season.
Crea is confident his side will get an outright win.
"We still aim to make the top two so that we get a home final and we hope to get an outright win over Albion who are struggling a bit at the moment," he said.
"If we play to our strengths and have two good days then I'm sure we can do it."
