HOPPERS Crossing ended its Victorian Turf Cricket Association north division season on a negative note by going down to finals hopefuls Doutta Stars.
Hoppers finished in second last position on the ladder.
Douttas declared after hitting up 7-318 in the first innings, and Hoppers Crossing fell well short with 134.
Hoppers' coach Trent Said was "extremely disappointed" after the match and said his side
had not reached their expectations.
He was "never going to be pleased finishing second last".
"We knew it was going to be a tough season considering we lost so many experienced players from last season, but we still expected to win a few more games and to finish a bit higher on the ladder.
"It wasn't great to end the season with such a big loss to Doutta Stars but there were many positives to take from the year as several of our young players made their debuts in the firsts and I'm sure many of them will go on to play in the side for many years to come."
At least seven young players made the first team squad throughout the year which pleased the proud coach, but he said the side may have not been balanced enough to win competitive matches.
"Although it was great to blood in some new players in some games, we hade a mix of five or six young guys with the same amount of senior players which just wasn't the right mix to win matches.
"If we had seven or eight senior guys in I think we would have done better, but I'm confident we will be better in the long term as the younger players will have more experience next season.
"Players like James Cook, who captains our under-17s, will only improve with more game time at a high level of play."
As for his future with the club, Said has been reappointed for another season and hopes to redeem himself by improving the state of the firsts team.
"I hope to pick up one or two new players and we will have some players coming out of retirement so improvements will definitely be made to the squad," he said.
