Hoppers in tight spot

17 Feb, 2010 09:49 AM
HOPPERS Crossing is looking for a win in its final game of the season to ensure it avoids relegation in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association's north division.

Now sitting eighth, the Cats need a win to make sure they stay in the division next season.

"If we lose there is a chance that we could be in the relegation area, which we are trying to avoid," said captain-coach Trent Said.

"If results don't fall our way - and taking into account a disputed result - it could well happen."

Their opponents Doutta Stars need to win if they are any chance of getting into finals.

"Doutta will come out very aggressive as they will probably need an outright win if they are any

chance of making the finals," Said believes.

"We are expecting a fierce contest, as both teams will be pushing for everything."

The Cats will be hoping to get out on the park after failing to get any play in their previous match.

"Both days of our last match were called off so we haven't played for the past two weeks," Said said.

"We had a poor match before that so the boys are keen to get out there and play."

Said believes the team is a strong chance of finishing the season with a win and is hoping some of the younger players will stand up.

"Our form has been pretty good, besides our last match, so I think we have a chance to win.

"They will come out aggressively so we can use that to our advantage."
