WERRIBEE Centrals' coach Phil Crea says his side played its best game all year in recordingan outright win over East Keilor in round nine of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association North A1 competition on Saturday.
The Centrals went into the second day with the match already in the bag but went about ensuring they got maximum points after restricting their opposition to a two-innings total of 155, which fell short of Centrals' first innings total of 6-178.
Crea was delighted with his side's all-round performance and the proud coach heaped praise on his opening bowlers Aaron Edrich and Darren Clutton, who took a number of wickets to help their side achieve an impressive victory.
"It was a great team performance and our side relies on 11 blokes to get us over the line compared to other sides who rely on a few," Crea said.
"Having said that our two opening bowlers were outstanding on the first day and both looked like top-class bowlers.
"I think they are the two best bowlers in the competition and they certainly showed it in this match."
Crea also hailed the performance of Dean Cachia who made 61 and along with Chris Parslow was instrumental in the Centrals' win.
"Dean was great in the match and has been superb all year as has Chris Parslow who was been pretty consistent this year.
"Things are starting to work for us and it's important these guys keep playing well."
The Centrals are third on the VTCA ladder and are closing in on second-placed Footscray United which is one point above them and Crea says his side knows what needs to be done in the run in to the finals.
"I've got no doubt we're the best side in the competition when we put our best foot forward and the players know we have to keep working hard.
"I hope we can finish in second so we can get a home semi-final and from there on in we will need a bit of luck if we want to go all the way."
The Centrals' next match is against top side Moonee Valley at Galvin Park and Crea is "reasonably confident" his side will get another win.
"It doesn't matter if we're facing Moonee Valley or any other team as we'll go out there looking to win.
"They have some really good players but I think we're a better balanced side."
The match starts at 1pm.
