STAGE two of the Point Cook Town Centre is just months away from opening, but there is even further expansion on the horizon, developer Walker Corporation says.
The first stage of the Point Cook Town Centre shopping strip opened in August last year to much fanfare and the suburb's residents are eagerly awaiting the November opening of stage two.
"It's going to be great to have more places to shop locally," one resident told the Banner outside the centre last week.
"It means we won't have to travel so far to go to a department store."
The $45million second stage includes 40 additional specialty shops, a Harris Scarfe department store, Best & Less and a 450-seat food court.
Information on the development was provided to the Banner this week by Walker Corporation revealing there would be more on-street retail facilities and a "purpose-built town square".
There will also be 230 extra undercover car parking spaces, taking the total number to more than 1500.
There are plans in place for even more expansion of the town centre, but details have not yet been released.
Walker Corporation said the project had employed more than 570 people during construction and that the Point Cook Community Learning Centre was also nearing completion. The exterior of the building is finished and the interior fit-out is under way.
The centre will include a 950-square-metre library, civic and community rooms, occasional-care facilities, a toy library and community kitchen as well as two kindergarten rooms and maternal and child heath facilities.
