VETERANS, young families, office workers, teenagers and politicians came together at the Werribee cenotaph last Wednesday for Remembrance Day, reflecting on those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The service included the traditional laying of the wreaths before the crowd paused for the Last Post and observed a minute's silence at 11am.
Werribee RSL invited three Australian Army cadets from Werribee Secondary College to raise the flags for the ceremony.
This year was the first time the college has promoted the Department of Defence program.
Cadet Jeffrey Hamilton, 15, told the Banner it was an "honour and a privilege" to take part in the service.
His mother, Tracey, said she was extremely proud of her son and his role with the cadets.
"It's been a great experience for him," she said. "When he was told he would be helping to raise the flags he couldn't believe it. He said it was a great birthday present, and he's already speaking about Anzac Day."
RSL president Daryl Ryan said he was thrilled to see the next generation carrying on the tradition of our forefathers.
"We're now receiving many more requests from local secondary schools who want our members to go out and speak to students," he said.
