A WYNDHAM Vale resident fears it could take a fatality for authorities to improve safety at the corner of Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads.
Rebecca, who did not want her surname published, told the Banner the intersection was an accident waiting to happen.
"Almost daily, I watch children darting across the intersection," she said.
"More recently, I witnessed an elderly woman with a walker trying to cross, what was an extremely busy Ballan Road.
"Had it not been for considerate drivers who stopped and held up traffic for this woman, she may have been hit." Although the junction has a roundabout to control traffic flow, there are no pedestrian crossings or lights.
"With developments happening at such a rapid rate around this area, there should be constant monitoring of local roads to assess developing issues and potential problems," she said.
VicRoads metropolitan north-west regional director Nial Finegan said recent data showed there had been only one recorded crash in the 12 months to June 2009, and this did not involve any pedestrians.
He said VicRoads would consult with Wyndham Council to identify safety improvements at the intersection.
