Concern over blinding light

01 Jul, 2009 12:39 PM
POINT Cook motorists are being blinded along Sneydes Road by lighting from pokie venue The Brook, with one resident fearing it could lead to a serious accident.

The owner of the licensed club, Geelong Football Club, admitted the lights were an issue and that it was looking at ways to minimise the impact on Sneydes Road.

"There may be one light there which may be pointing in the wrong direction," club operations manager Stuart Fox said.

"It's not the lighting as a whole, we just think it's one or two of the lights, so they are being checked at the moment. We understand there might be an issue, so we just want to get onto it straight away."

Point Cook resident George Leake said he had been blinded by the lights and feared anyone who didn't know the road could have an accident. He said the light was worse when it was raining.

"When you come east along Sneydes Road, you go over the bridge and turn left. But when you are turning right, those lights are very bright and they are quite dazzling.

"If you don't know the road, then it would be very easy to miss the corner."

Mr Leake said management at The Brook had been receptive to his concerns.

"Now I just hope they do something about it, and quickly."
